Councillors will vote on St George’s Hydrotherapy pool
  • St George’s has over 4,500 registered users.
  • 250 people of all ages were accessing the pool each week before the pool was temporarily closed due to the pandemic.

According to reports, the City Council had been in discussions with with a local businessman and physio, who was all set to take over the running of the pool. Which included him taking on the costs of improvements etc.

Then, seemingly out the blue, the Council via the Tories, announced they would not be going ahead with this option and instead would keep the facility closed.

Cue uproar …..!

It seems most Councillors, of all persuasions were taken aback by the announcement, and even Paul Bristow MP got involved, doing a little video about how he cared etc

Then there was a call for a special meeting, which Mayor at the time, Cllr Stephen Lane, apparently decided against? I suspect it was because, at the time, he had his eye on the upcoming local elections, in which he was standing?

So, the latest …

Now there’s a meeting of Full Council on 23rd May, at which a formal motion will be submitted via Labour’s Cllr Ikra Yasin.

There’s still time….

If you haven’t already, there is a petition on the Council’s website, that ends on the 27th May 2022. You can add your support via this link!

If you are a Twitter user, you might like to know there is a hashtag to keep an eye on things, it’s #SaveStGeorges!
